Yeast like cells (YLC)
Yeast-like cells reflect the presence of fungal cells, which are round to oval-shaped, colourless and may show budding, as well as tube-like structures, if forming hyphen. Funguria, the presence of fungal cells in urine indicates the presence of a fungal infection of the urinary tract with Candida sp. being the most common cause. YLC has been demonstrated to allow the rule out of fungal UTIs.
