The fight against malaria starts with diagnostics
Malaria remains one of the most important public health concerns globally, with more than 3.2 billion people in 91 countries at risk of infection.
Early and accurate diagnosis of malaria is vital in the fight against malaria, so that specific treatment can be initiated thereby preventing complications and reducing mortality.
By virtue of its violet semiconductor laser with a 405 nm beam, which permits the detection of smaller particles, the Sysmex XN-31 automated haematology analyser, in addition to the standard full blood count parameters, can detect and count malaria-infected red blood cells (MI-RBC) utilising the principle of fluorescence flow cytometry.
XN-31
- Direct detection of the parasite
- Parasite quantification (absolute count and % parasitaemia)
- Plasmodia species (P. falciparum or other)
- Detection of gametocytes (research parameter)
- Measurement of complete blood count
- Automated quality control for malaria detection and haematology parameters
- Limit of detection is 20 parasites / µL
- Fully automated sample processing (sampler analysis)
- Up to 60 samples per hour
- Sample aspiration volume 60 µL (no sample preparation, load and go)
- Fast process for emergency samples
