Dried blood spot sampling
Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling is a commonly used method for semi-quantitative analysis in the laboratory or research. However, Capitainer's pioneering technology introduces a method for leveraging dried blood spot (DBS) cards to conduct quantitative measurements. This advancement creates new paths for enhancing the patient journey and offers more cost-effective care. Sysmex is the official distributor of Capitainer, a Swedish manufacturer of DBS cards. If you have any questions or want to purchase our solutions, our product specialists are happy to assist you.
qDBS technology vs. Standard DBS technology
qDBS technology vs. Standard DBS technology
Until now, DBS had its limitations, primarily restricted to semi-quantitative measurements. However, with the introduction of qDBS technology, a transformative shift occurs:
Capitainer qDBS technology | Standard DBS technology | |
Volume control | Metered Volume in exact DBS spot | Unknown volume in variable size spot |
Sample handling | Precut, approved material, ready to use | Initial punch step necessary |
Analyte distribution | Eluate independent (all blood used) | Varies due to subpunch location causing bias |
Hematocrit | Sample volume not affected | Location dependent subpunch |
Drying process | In protected card during shipping | 3 hours -open air prior to shipping |
Risk for contamination | Low, sample embedded and protected within card | High, sample exposed to surroundings and punching |
Sample quality | Exact volume 100% or no sample | Varying with user skill level |
Capitainer qDBS spots are equivalent to conventional DBS cards based on Cotton linter material from Ahlstrom.
Introducing qDBS technology
Introducing qDBS technology
Our Capitainer blood sampling cards leverage our innovative qDBS technology, integrating paper, polymer microfluidics, and thin water-soluble membranes to precisely measure blood volume. With a simple process, blood is applied to the inlet, filling the metering channel, and transferred to a pre-cut DBS paper disc. This metering mechanism, utilizing thin dissolvable films, was pioneered by G. Lenk et al.
How to use Capitainer DBS cards?
How to use Capitainer DBS cards?
A drop of blood is collected by finger-prick and transferred to the device inlet port. This is the only action required by the user. Find the full instruction video here.
